Sister Vickie Dorlene Broome, born Vickie Dorlene Berry, was a woman of deep faith, steadfast love, and strength. She was born in Gadsden, Alabama, on February 26, 1957, to the late Carolyn Elizabeth and John Willie Berry. At the age of four, she moved with her family to Cleveland, Ohio, where she was lovingly raised and deeply rooted in her Christian faith.
As the eldest of three children, Vickie displayed leadership and resilience from an early age. She accepted Christ young and was baptized at New Garden Missionary Baptist Church, later renamed Noonday Tabernacle Church of Deliverance. Following the passing of Pastor Joe Grose, she faithfully served at Faith Works Community Church and Morelight Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of her son, Pastor Michael Broome II. Throughout her life, she served joyfully in many roles: choir member, church clerk, missionary, and Mothers Board member until her health began to decline.
A graduate of Lula Diehl High School, Vickie began her career as a legal secretary for Attorney Virgil E. Brown before working with Habitat for Humanity. She later chose to dedicate herself to full-time motherhood, raising her family with grace, wisdom, and sacrificial love.
On her 21st birthday, she married Michael Lawrence Broome Sr., and together they raised seven children, who were the center of her world. Vickie was also a successful entrepreneur, earning numerous awards through Avon and other ventures. Vickie was an extraordinary cook. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and welcome, where she nourished both body and spirit.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, James Edward.
Vickie leaves behind her devoted husband, Michael Sr.; her sister, Zsa Zsa Doss (Larry); her seven children - Michelle, Michael II (Rausienne), Melody, Malana (Rashon), Michael III, Michael IV, and Michael V; five grandchildren-Ta'Han, Jason, Jashona, Mariae, and Melina; and one great-granddaughter, Blessyn, who shares her birthday.
Sister Vickie Broome lived a life that honored God, uplifted others, and left a lasting legacy of love, faith, and family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on May 31, 2025, at 10:00AM at Sanctuary Baptist Church, 4004 E 131st St, Cleveland, OH.
