Vernon Henderson, Sr. was born June 27, 1942, in Cleveland, OH to the late Ozzie Henderson and Daisy Harris Henderson. He accepted Christ at a young age. Vernon was a lifelong member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where he was baptized. He received his education from Beehive Elementary, Elliott Junior High and graduated from John Adams High School in 1961.
On September 26, 1964, he married his high school sweetheart, Winifred Taylor Henderson. Soon after, he enlisted into the Navy, where he became a hospital corpsman. Vernon began to increase his knowledge and skills in many trades after his honorable discharge from the Navy on January 10, 1970. He was a health inspector for the city of Cleveland, and then he became the first black apprentice in the Operating Engineers Union. He then went to work for Terex. Lastly, he worked for the post office as a union steward until his retirement in 2002.
When he was not working, Vernon was on his motorcycle with his wife, Winifred, and their many friends from the Goldwing Road Rider Association. Known as "Easy Rider", they traveled across the country. When he was home, he spent his time with either family, friends, or his community.
Vernon leaves to cherish his memories and continue on his legacy 4 children, Lisa Henderson Youngblood (Kevin), Vernon Henderson II (Mineko), Eric Henderson aka Russell Smith (proceed in death Tanya), Jason Henderson (Tamika); 11 grandchildren, Alexandria, Nichelle, Markis, Olivia, Sophia, Hiro, Kimberly, Erin, Akia, Jessica, Jalen; 6 great-grandchildren, Alaina, Isabella, Kamiyah, Zuri, Nadia, Aidan; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews & friends.
A public viewing will be held on February 27, 2025, 3:00PM - 5:00PM at the House Of Peace Funeral Home, 4105 East 71st Street, Cleveland, OH. The Celebration of Life will be on February 28, 2025, 10:00AM wake and 10:30AM service at St Andrews Missionary Baptist, 10620 Mountview Ave, Cleveland, OH.
