Verlia Mae Harris

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Verlia Mae Harris who passed on March 22, 2021 at the age of 90.

Verlia Harris was born to Gus and Carrie Swanson on November 27, 1930. She was the ninth of eleven siblings, of which nine preceded her in death. Verlia had two daughters, Dorothy and Barbara who also preceded her in death. Verlia devoted her life to God and made Jesus her personal Lord and Savior at an early age. Verlia attended Glenville Seventh Day Adventist Church for over twenty years It was her faith and dedication to serve consistently

Verlia was educated in the Tuskegee public school system. She attended Mason Training School in the Tuskegee community.

Growing up in a big family allowed her many opportunities to get plenty of knowledge and experience on how to be a good caretaker right at home. That knowledge included not only her ability to cook and clean but that care also extended to her love for gardening. Verlia had the biggest most beautiful garden valley mini plots. She grew greens, tomatoes, cabbage and squash. People from the valley knew Ms.Verlia was from the south lol she cooked gave food to her whole neighborhood. She helped a lot of people from the neighborhood and loved everyone like family.

Verlia met and married her beloved husband, Albert Harris. They loved traveling, going to the lake, and visiting different family members. She raised two grandchildren Jonathan and Mark Wainwright. She also raised Marjulie Brightharp and Marcus Wainwright, her first great grandchild.

Verlia departed this life on Monday, March 22, 2021. She leaves to cherish her memory one husband: Albert a.k.a. Boosie; one sister: Florine and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives from Cleveland, Chicago, Detroit, Alabama and Tennessee who will greatly miss her.

Verlia is now reunited with her siblings who have gotten their wings and rejoicing in her homecoming.
