Steven McLendon Obituary

My Journey

Steven McLendon was born on June 13, 1964, to the late Ruby Doreatha and John Carlton McLendon. He was the second of their three boys. Steve was so happy to have an older brother, Carl, and a younger brother, Kevin.

He attended John Adams High school. He was a member of the track team and in 1982, they won the State Championship. Steve graduated in 1983 and went on to Tri-C until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1986.

Steve was stationed in different places, but mainly at the Great Lakes Naval base in Chicago, IL. He was honorably discharged in 1996. After leaving the Navy, Steve worked several jobs. His last place of employment was the YWCA of Cleveland, where he worked in Maintenance. Mac enjoyed gathering and talking with old friends...especially his cousins.

Steve loved God, was baptized at an early age, and re-dedicated his life to God when he was older. Already a father of seven, he re-united with his friend from high school, Arlene LeVert and on August 18, 2018, they were married. They attended The Body of Christ Assembly Church, where his very close friend, Bishop Eric Clark, serves as Pastor.

On June 3, 2026, God called Steven home from labor to reward.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife: Arlene LeVert-McLendon; one brother: Kevin McLendon (Patricia); five brothers-in-law: Jimmie Williams (Michelle), Pastor Michael Bell Sr. (Lena), Dale LeVert (Pamela), Dwayne LeVert (Trudy), and Robert Grays (Crisaundra); one sister-in-law: Loretta Porter (Eric); seven children: Dominique Washington Sr, (Jazette), Deonte' Washington Sr, DaShena McLendon, Avante Henderson,, DeVaughn McLendon (Alysssa), DeSean McLendon, DeNay McLendon and bonus son, Martel; thirteen grandchildren: Dustin, D'Yahna, Dominique II (Deuce), Kyhlen, Kaleb, Daniel, Dylan, Khalani, Jade, Deonte' II (DJ), Dallas, Kenzli, Dijuan; one uncle: Lamar McLendon; six aunts: Alice Williams, Jacqueline McLendon, Vivian McLendon, June, Ora, Louise LeVert and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on July 11, 2026, 11:00 AM at Temple Baptist Church, 1862 Noble Road, East Cleveland, OH 44112. Bishop Eric K. Clark, Body of Christ Assembly, Eulogist.
