Patricia A. Walker-Smith was born on August 8, 1944, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Walter and Bernice (Hazel) Walker. She peacefully transitioned from this life to her eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy of faith, wisdom, and love. She was a proud graduate of Glenville High School, where she laid the foundation for her passion for learning. She continued her education by attending classes at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C), always seeking to grow and expand her knowledge.
Surrendering her life to Christ, she was baptized at The Unity Baptist Church. Her mantra was to “Keep God First, education second, and you will always be successful.” As a proud and active member of The Greater Abyssinia Baptist Church, she served with joy and dedication. She was a member of the gospel choir, lifting her voice in praise and worship to glorify the Lord she loved so dearly.
As a woman of grace and conviction, she was not only devoted to her faith but also to her family and community. She led by example, showing compassion, offering wisdom, and inspiring all who knew her. Professionally, she began her career as a social worker, providing support and advocacy for those in need. She was also an avid writer of poetry; she wrote a book titled Poems from the Heart, and a stage play titled “The First Illusion.” She also liked reading Laura Ingalls Wilder’s “Little House on the Prairie” series. In her later years, she worked in the public sector as a customer service representative for the City of Cleveland, where she served the population for over thirty (30) years before retiring.
She cradled life with great enthusiasm and energy. She was a beloved participant and volunteer at the St. Martin de Porres Family Center, Senior Program. There, she enjoyed playing cards such as bid-whist. She also enjoyed going to casinos and listening to soulful music. The Senior program provided her with a renewed purpose to enjoy each moment, fellowshiping with friends. As we gather to celebrate her birthday, we are eulogizing the life of an amazing woman and mother.
She leaves behind her loving children, Tracey Lynn Walker, the twins, Shawn Louis Smith & Sheray Bernice Smith, and life partner of 36 years, Stacey Green. Her five grandchildren: Dwight Avery Gales Jr., Yolanda Nicole Walker, Anthony James Walker, Tre’Shon Louis Walker-Smith, and Shane Edward Walker-Smith. Her five Great-Grandchildren: Raymiah Thorne, Anthony James Walker Jr., Aiva Jean Sancho-Gales, Dwight Avery Gales III., and Christopher Zion Walker-Smith, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Scripture: Matthew 25:21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
