Mary Elizabeth Grover was born January 21, 1941 in Martinsville, VA, the daughter of Charlie Thomas Carter, Sr. and Laurestine (Hairston) Carter. In June 1966, she joined hands in matrimony with Leroy Grover, Jr., an Army Veteran and love of her life, who passed away on February 20, 1993.
At a young age, Mary with her parents and siblings, lived for a short time in Rolfe, WV, before returning to her roots in Martinsville. Her journey through life was marked by notable milestones, including her graduation from Albert Harris High School in 1960, where she had many friends. In Martinsville, she worked in the textile industry as a seamstress at Sale Knitting Company. In the early '70s, Mary embraced new horizons, relocating to Cleveland, OH, following her sister's path. She continued to dedicate her skilled hands to the art of seamstressing at Joseph and Feiss in Cleveland until illness led to her early retirement.
Mary found solace and purpose as a devoted member of Temple Baptist Church in East Cleveland. Her commitment shone brightly through active participation in the usher board and nurses' guild ministries. Known for her generous spirit, Mary had a passion for collecting cherished treasures and giving selflessly to others.
Mary leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth and joy. Mary's zest for life, infectious laughter, and vibrant spirit made her the life of any gathering. Just don't have any dogs, else sadly. you won't see her at your gathering. Although she didn't have children of her own, Mary poured love into her nieces and nephews as if they were her own.
