Mary Cunningham

A Time to be Born: Mary Acoff was born on October 30, 1934 in Dallas County, Alabama to the late Rev. John R. Acoff and Lucy Harris Acoff. She was the first child to be of 18 children. 

A Time to Learn: Mary was educated in the Alabama and the Cleveland Public School Systems. She graduated in Alabama. 

A Time to Plant and Commitment to God: Mary accepted Christ as a teen and joined the St. Peter's Baptist Church under the Pastoral leadership of the late Re. Fred Manuel. Mary was active in the Youth Choir and Gospel Chorus. She met and married the late Cecil Cunningham. To this union two children were born, Betty Cunningham and Brenda Cunningham. She later moved her membership and united with the New Pilgrim Rest Church under the Pastoral leadership of Elder George R. Horne Jr. There she served as a Mother in the Mother's Ministry. 

A Time for Hobbies: Mary loved her family, friends, and people. But she loved to cook. She would feed you for breakfast, lunch and inner, then she would put you to bed to get some sleep. She served on the kitchen committee at  St. Peter's Baptist Church for many years. 

A Time to Die: Mary departed this life and entered into eternal rest on Friday, April 29, 2022 at home after a short a battle with her illness. 

A Time to Weep: Mary leaves to cherish her memory; two daughters Betty Burton (Derrick) and Brenda Jones (Steve) of Cleveland, Oh, one grand-daughter Breanna S. Jones and three grandsons: Selvin Young, Jason Young, and Steven E. Jones Jr., one step grandson Nicolas Burton, one step granddaughter Melissa Burton (deceased), one adopted grandson Edwin Hunter Sr., all of Cleveland, Ohio, tow treat grandsons, three great granddaughters, six sisters, tow brothers and a host of In-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, mother, father, stepmother, seven brothers and three sisters. 

A public viewing will be held Thursday, May 5, 2022, from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM at the House Of Peace Funeral Home, 4105 East 71st Street (off East 71st and Harvard), Cleveland, OH. The Celebration of Life Services will be held Friday, May 6, 2022. A 10:00 AM Wake and 10:30 AM Service are also at the House Of Peace Funeral Home.  Interment will be at the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, 5505 Northfield Road Bedford Heights, Ohio. 

Face Mask will be required for both Viewing and Funeral services.
