Lois Everhart Obituary

GRANNY CHRONICLES

"The Final Chapter" in the voice of "Lois Mae Everhart"

"God is so good! I never thought He would let me be here 99 years! I sure didn't expect this long life when I was born on March 27, 1925, in Eufaula, Alabama. I'm sure this is going to surprise my parents, James and Georgia Holmes Tyson.

As a young girl, I had a good life in Eufaula. I played with my friends and worked hard, farming and helping my momma with the chores. Soon, I grew up and caught the eye of a handsome young man named, Nathan Everhart, and after courting for a brief while we got married on September 14, 1941. We were blessed with one child, Julius. It nearly broke me into pieces when both my husband and son went home to be with the Lord before me.

I always leaned and depended on the Lord and stayed close to His heart as He stayed close to mine. I joined fellowship with the Antioch Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend Snipes. In 1948, I moved to Cleveland, Ohio, and united with Mount Herman Baptist Church under Dr. R. L. Fuller, where I served until my health declined.

I was so thankful for everything God blessed me with and tried my hardest to keep my house clean and peaceful. Everything had a place, and I kept everything in its place! Oh, how I loved to do my gardening and yardwork. It made me smile when the people said I had the best lawn on East 175th Street. The Lord blessed me to really enjoy life and serve and help His people. I took care of my home and tried to help others in the neighborhood to take care of theirs. I was still trying to keep my surroundings neat even in the nursing home. I want you to know when they would come messing with me about a shower or a bath, I let them know, "I ain't no dirty woman!"

I kept devilment out of my mind and didn't let my hands be idle so that old devil, "ol' country clown" that he is, he wouldn't tempt me into mischief. I would crochet all the time and for anybody. I made blankets for babies, for people in nursing homes, and for my friends when they were in the hospital. I wasn't necessarily on the missionary society roll but I sure did the work! I loved to visit the sick, help new mommas with their children, and provide them with home-cooked meals.

Now I wasn't just sitting at home, I was active in many street clubs and received many awards and proclamations from many social clubs and organizations. I was an active member of the Lee-Seville-Miles Citizens Council and the East 175th Street Club from which I received several certificates of appreciation. I really loved my sewing clubs at Mount Herman and Saint Paul churches, and many more around the Lee-Seville area.

There was one thing I loved to do more than anything else I loved to study and read the Bible. Me and my friends would get together and go to Bible Study. Do you know I even got perfect attendance three times from New Bethlehem Baptist Church. I loved to call my granddaughter after Bible class and Sunday school to talk about what I learned in class. I taught that girl that the Word of God is our foundation and above all "Study for yourself!" Matter of fact, that girl is probably going to tell you more about my life. cause it's been so full and blessed until I can't remember everything!

The thing I want to really leave y'all with is, "Love each other and be kind to one another!" I know I am leaving a lot of people who loved me, and God knows I love you too! It's time for a reunion though. I want to see my dear sister Rosie Lee Jones; I remember the times in Eufaula when she would beg me to cook, and I acted like it was a chore but I loved being there forming and cooking. I want to see my husband, Nathan, and my son, Julius who went on before me, along with all the others I dearly missed in this life. I put a lot of time in with my precious granddaughter, Julia, and now she will have to carry it on. Thank you for staying with me until the "crossover", My great-grandson, Maurice, you stand up and be the man Granny always prayed for you to be and remember how to make them pancakes from scratch and take care of "Gran-Gron's" babies, Jaxson and Sierra.

To all my family in Eufaula, and wherever you may be in the country, I love every one of you, and thank you for the love you showed me. To all the Granny Chronicle followers, and especially the staff of the Hospice of Western Reserve God bless you and I am so grateful for each of you. Well, I want you to know I'm with Jesus now and this chicken and cookies are so good-the best I ever tosted! Finally, I tried to wait but could y'all make sure Julia gets good onet Alright now, God bless!
