Joyce Jackson Obituary

We are saddened to announce the transition of Ms. Joyce A. Jackson.

Joyce E. Austin, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. Born on April 1, 1946, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Rose L. Gachett and Robert S. McClain. Joyce lived a life of faith, service, and love.

From a young age, Joyce professed her faith in Christ, first joining Messiah Baptist Church and later becoming a devoted member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church on July 14, 1968 under the leadership of the late Dr. R.L. Fuller. Her dedication to Mt. Hermon Baptist Church remained steadfast throughout the years, especially through her involvement in the Women's Ministry and her volunteerism in Vacation Bible School along with different conferences that were held at the church.

A proud graduate of Glenville High School, Class of 1964, Joyce, pursued higher education at Cuyahoga Community College while working diligently as a clerk in a dry-cleaning business. Her career led her to the Cuyahoga County Welfare Department-now known as the Cuyahoga County Department of Health and Human Services-where she rose from a clerk to an Income Maintenance Specialist. Over the course of 35 years, she committed herself to serving her community until her well-earned retirement in 2002. Joyce also played a vital role in Local 1746, serving as Treasurer during her tenure.

Joyce married Marcus A. Clark on December 6, 1969, and from their union came her cherished son, Steven Marcus Clark. Several years later she married Kenneth Austin. Joyce's love for cooking was unmatched-she catered numerous events and prepared unforgettable holiday meals that brought joy to family and friends. Her passion for crocheting also warmed the hearts of many, as she lovingly gifted afghans to family and friends.

A nurturing soul, Joyce embraced many children at Mt. Hermon, supporting them from infancy to adulthood. She lived a life of service, always ready to extend a helping hand in whatever way she could.

Joyce leaves behind her beloved son, Steven Marcus Clark (Sharlette) of Atlanta, GA; three devoted sisters, Catherine Mills of Palm Coast, FL, Barbara Gachett, and Sylvia Talley of Cleveland, OH; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends who will forever cherish her memory. She also leaves behind four dear friends, Frances Anderson, Geneva Barkley, Robert Manningham, and Darlena Fisher, whose companionship and love enriched her journey.

Her legacy of kindness, devotion, and generosity will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.

**Rest in peace, Joyce. Your love and light will never fade."
