Janet Gaines

Janet (Peaches) Gaines was born on February 7, 1957, along with twin sister Janice (Puddin) Gaines, to the late Ecklin and Verdell Gaines. They were the fourth and fifth of six children. She was the quietest of the bunch and often the peacemaker. 

Peaches attended Cleveland Public Schools, graduating from East High School in 1974. She enjoyed music, cooking, laughing, dancing and being around family. She accepted Christ at the age of 28 establishing her own personal relationship and journey. 

Over the years, she worked in many industries, including dry cleaning and property management. However, Peaches was a nurturer at heart. She took care of everyone that needed her help, including her grandmother (Mattie Stinnett), her mother (Verdell Gaines), two of her sisters (Verna Jean & Sandra Lynn), her brother Jeffery, along with a special aunt Hattie Mae Gaines whom all proceeded her in death until she fell ill herself. 

Peaches put up a good fight. However, she was placed in hospice care in mid-November. Her last days were spent surrounded by family and close friends, on December 10, 2024 she gained her wings. 

Peaches leaves to cherish her memory, her children Ervin Gaines Sr. (Dorisalawn Gaines), Tramaine Gaines and Johann Gaines Sr. 2 siblings her brother Donald Hall Johann Gaines Jr., Shiah Collins, Ja'Nae Gaines, Ervin Gaines Jr., Ethan Gaines, Ariah Sr and twin sister Janice Woods. 9 grandchildren, Jason Collins Jr., Mya Greene, Sharp, and Jaylen Ward. Uncles William (Lynder) Stinnett from Bellwood, IL, Donald (Linda) Carter, Bobby (Brandi) Carter from Indianapolis, In., Aunts Willie Ann Stinnett, Cheryl Carter from Cleveland, Ohio, Luvenia Emery, Clara Carter, Shirley (Keith) Goldsmith, Vera Kersey, and Linda Carter. Her bonus grandbaby Harmony and bonus children Sheron Morrison, Jocelynn Ford, and Jason Collins Sr. Also include a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

A public viewing will be held on December 20, 2024, 3:00PM—5:00PM at the House Of Peace Funeral Home, 4105 East 71st Street, Cleveland, OH. The Celebration of Life will be on December 21, 2024, 10:00AM Wake and 10:30AM Service at New Direction Church, 1337 Giddings Road, Cleveland, OH. Minister Janice Woods will be the eulogist. Interment will immediately follow at Cleveland Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 4324 Green Rd, Highland Hills, OH.
