We are saddened to announce the transition of Ms. Hazel Coleman.
Hazel A. Coleman was born July 22, 1940 in Greenville, South Carolina and was the Daughter of Minnie and Henry Abraham. At a young age, Hazel and her family relocated to Cleveland, Ohio.
Hazel attended and graduated from East Tech High School in 1958. While attending East Tech, Hazel would often work as a Youth Leader at the Friendly Inn Settlement. This is where she developed her desire to work with and for children. Upon graduating from East Tech, Hazel enrolled in and attended Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. Hazel graduated from Central State University in 1962 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology.
Hazel pursued and obtained her License as a Social Worker and went on to work for the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family for over twenty-five years. After retiring from the State of Ohio, Hazel continued to work for several organizations over the years. Most notably, Harambee Services for Children and Families, the Highland Heights Police Department, and Heinen's Grocery Stores. The last few years Hazel was a dedicated Volunteer at The Greater Cleveland Food Bank. Hazel was also a very active member of the Central State University Alumni in Cleveland area.
Hazel became ill in January 2025 and spent her last several months in the care of Legacy Willoughby Nursing Home. Hazel passed away on September 7, 2025, while in hospice at Legacy Willoughby.
Hazel was preceded in death by her mother, Minnie, husband, Zane, and her son, Jason. Hazel leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends.
A Visitation will be held on September 18, 2025, from 3:30PM to 5:30PM at the House Of Peace Funeral Home, 4105 East 71st Street, Cleveland, OH. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 AM on September 19, 2025, at Evergreen Memorial Park, 5505 Northfield Rd, Bedford Heights, OH
