THE LIFE & LEGACY OF GARY

On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, after a lengthy stay at the Heights Rehabilitation Facility, God called home His faithful servant, Gary Chester Reeves Sr., affectionately known as "Mr. Paradise." Gary departed this earthly life surrounded by the love of family and friends, leaving behind a legacy of faith, laughter, music, and love. Gary was born on June 19, 1946, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Charles Reeves and Gladys Reeves, who preceded him in death. 

Gary received his education in the Cleveland Public School System and proudly graduated from John Adams High School in 1964. Shortly thereafter, he answered the call to serve his country and honorably served in the United States Navy. Throughout his life, Gary wore many hats. He worked as a shoe salesman at Morris Shoe Store in his younger years and later built a career as an insurance agent. He was known for his professionalism, warm personality, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life. In February of 1973, Gary married Frances, and to their union one child was born: Shamara Reeves. 

In April of 1982, Gary became a devoted member of Lane Metropolitan Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, where he was baptized and faithfully worshipped, nurturing his relationship with God. Shortly after, in July, Gary wed Brenda Kelly, and to this union three children were born: Shatia, Gary Jr., and Shaylia, all of Cleveland, Ohio. Gary had a vibrant personality and a passion for life. He loved playing the guitar and singing, often sharing his musical gifts with family and friends. A phenomenal baseball player known for his pitching skills in his younger years, he enjoyed sports and friendly competition. Gary was known for his impeccable style and took pride in dressing sharp wherever he went. When relaxing, he enjoyed watching classic television shows, including the beloved Sanford and Son, The Andy Griffith Show, and Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. 

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Gladys Reeves, and his siblings: Charles 3r, Reeves, Ruby Mae Reeves, Gloria Reeves, Gladys Reeves, and Anthony Reeves, He leaves to cherish his precious memory his loving children: Sherry Reeves, Shamara Reeves, Shatia Reeves, Gary Reeves Jr., and Shaylia Reeves, He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Te'osha, Diona, Samara, Cameron, Taylor, Rylee, Ayson, DeAndre Jr., and Laila; and his cherished great-grandchildren; Zoi, zuri, and Kyla, Gary is further survived by his loving sisters, Maureen Golphin and Rosa-Lee Thompson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by his kindness, wisdom, humor, and love. 

Though he is no longer with us in body, Gary's spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His smile, his music, his style, and his unwavering love for family will never be forgotten.

A Visitation Period will take place on June 18, 2026, 3:30PM to 5:30PM at the House Of Peace Funeral Home, 4105 East 71st Street, Cleveland, OH.  A Celebration of Life will also take place on June 19, 2026, with a 10:00AM Wake and a 10:30AM Service also at the House of Peace Funeral Home.
