Dorothy Thomas Obituary

We are saddened to announce the transition of Ms. Dorothy Lucille ("DOT") Thomas.

Dorothy Lucille Thomas, affectionately known as Dot was born in Jackson, Georgia to Hattie N. Thomas on April 5, 1949. She was the youngest of two daughters and was raised by her grandmother Annie Thomas until she moved to Cleveland, Ohio with her mother and sister at age eleven. She attended Cleveland public schools and graduated from John Hay high school in 1967. During the same year Dot gave birth to her first-born son, Anthony Longino-Thomas and had a second son. her baby boy. Terrance Thomas in 1973.

After graduating high school, Dot began a career at Blue Cross Blue Shield as a claim adjuster and worked there for thirty years. After retirement, she was able to focus on some of her favorite hobbies. which included styling hair (mainly for one of her close friends - Lorrain Love); gardening (vegetables and flowers) with her favorite first cousin Leon; watching Lifetime/Hallmark: Listening to Natalie Cole and the O'Jays; shopping and finally talking on the phone.

Dot enjoyed her grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to spend time with them. She cooked Christmas dinner every year to ensure she brought her sons and their families together at her home on this special holiday. Her sons never disappointed. They saved this special dinner for the last stop of the day so that they could give her the most time.

She had a love for animals. Throughout her lifetime she had many pets (the most being five at one time). She favored a pit bull named "Peaches"; she adored this animal so much that when Peaches died, she received another dog from her son who she named "Peaches II." Dot was called home on July 12, 2024. after an unexpected short illness. She was preceded in death by her mother Hattie Burney and sister. Rose Marie Barnes.

Gone from her earthly home. Dot leaves to cherish her memory her two sons: Anthony Longino-Thomas (Bridgette) and Terrance Thomas; six grandchildren: Terrance (Salena), Candace. Corey (Patricia). Eris (Anthony), Trent, and Dominique; four great grandchildren. Ezzy. Zoey. Zara and Dominique Jr; first cousin: Leon; niece and nephew: Cherice Russell and Willie Russell; god daughter: Tameka Stidham: close friends: Lorraine Love. Betty Stidham, Denise Longino and a host of other special relatives and friends.
