Clifford James Thigpen: A Legacy of Speed, Laughter, and Love
Clifford James Thigpen, a man whose vibrant laugh could fill any room and whose huge heart touched everyone he met, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, at the age of 55. Born on December 31, 1969, in Cleveland, Ohio, Clifford was the beloved son of the late Dorothy Thigpen-Dunaway (Tony) and Johnny Reccord (Patricia), and was named after his uncle, James Clifford. He was truly one of a kind-a loving father, a devoted husband, a top-notch Papa, and a cherished brother, cousin, nephew, uncle, and friend.
Clifford graduated from Kenston High School, where he left an indelible mark on the athletic program. He excelled in track and field, holding the 400-meter track record with a time of 50.76 seconds. He was also a member of the legendary 1988 4x400-meter relay team, affectionately nicknamed the "Double Stuffed Oreos," which set a school record time of 3:23.47 that still stands today. He also played high school football.
Later in life, Clifford channeled his passion for sports into his community, dedicating countless hours to officiating high school football and basketball. This role, which he embraced with fairness and enthusiasm, was just one example of his commitment to giving back. He also found great joy in coaching both of his sons' Little League football teams, sharing not only his knowledge of the game but also creating lasting memories on and off the field.
On February 14, 2008, Clifford married Lisa G. Thigpen, his devoted partner and confidante. Clifford's greatest joy was his family, and he was an unwavering source of love and support for his children: Brittani (James), Marissa (Paul), Michael (Diana), James, Breauna, Aaron, and Marissa. His spirit will forever live on through his precious grandchildren, Natalia and James, who brought a special light to his life.
Clifford is also survived by his cherished siblings: John, Robert, Jason (Gloria), Amber (Will), and Alex (Tina), along with numerous beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews who will continue to honor his memory.
Beyond the field, Clifford loved golf, grilling, and making memories with his family. His famous mac n' cheese was always a family favorite. Known for his radiant smile and larger-than-life personality, Clifford's warmth and humor were his trademarks.
Clifford is preceded in death by his Mother (Dorothy Thigpen-Dunaway), Brother (Tyrone King), aunts, uncles, and cousins, whom he now joins in eternal rest. His absence will leave a deep void in the lives of his family and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
They will remember his dedication, his culinary talents, his unconditional love, and his unforgettable laugh. Clifford James Thigpen's memory will forever be a blessing and a reminder to live life with a huge heart and a ready smile.
