Charles Chambliss Obituary

On November 9, 1940, in Pageton, West Virginia, Charles Everette Chambliss, the third son of the late Sarah Hairston and William V. Chambliss was born. As a young child, Charles and his brother Clifford were raised by his uncle, Mr. Hilliard Chambliss in Detroit, Michigan. Upon moving to Bedford, Ohio in 1958, he was reunited with his mother stepfather, and other siblings.

Charles received his education from the Detroit and the Bedford Heights Public School System. Charles served three years in the United States Army and upon discharge, he lived briefly in New York City and Washington, DC.

Charles received Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and attended the Mt. Zion Methodist Church with his parents in Detroit, Michigan. He later joined the Temple Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio in 1961 under the leadership of the late Pastor E. W. Ward Sr., the late Pastor A.E. Campbell, Jr., and our current Pastor Sedric D. Veal, Sr.

Being a member for over 61 years, he once served and sang as a member of the Hour Of Consolation Choir and the Male Chorus Ministry.

In June of 1969, he met and married Emma Jean Anderson. Later, on January 20, 1973, he was united in marriage to Flownie Ross, who preceded him in death.

Charles was the Head Chef at the Hilton Hotel in Washington, DC, the Cleveland Lakeside Yacht Club, and the Red Coach Grill. He also acquired the love of purchasing and installing carpet while working at Kilgore Carpet Company, later forming his own business, Chambliss Carpet and Installation Service.

Charles enjoyed traveling, concerts, singing, football, basketball, dancing, and partying. Having come from a family of eighteen children, which included twelve boys and six girls, Charles had a deep solid affection of love for his siblings. His sister, Charlotte was lovingly named after him.

On July 18, 1988, the Illustrious Charles E. Chambliss became a member of St. John Lodge #66 of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Masons. He later became a member of the Ralph Bunche Lodge #304.

Charles was a 33rd Degree Mason, who enjoyed the order and teaching of the Masonic and Eastern Star lessons.

He was the Worthy Patron for many years of the Shining Star Chapter and also filled in as Worthy Patron for many of the other chapters of Adah Grand Chapter. Charles was the Grand Patron of Ohio. He started a Patron Class for the brothers in the State of Ohio. He was also the National Supreme Association Grand Patron for many years until his health prevented him from serving.

On Thursday, October 6, 2022, Charles went home to be with his Lord and Savior.

His earthly life had been lived rich and full. He loved being a son, brother, father, husband and sharing God's Word and wisdom with everyone who crossed his path. He will truly be missed by his family and his many friends at the Temple Baptist Church
