Jacqueline Marie Thornhill (nee Mason), affectionately known as Jackie, passed away on April 16, 2024, in Cleveland, OH. She was born to Mattie (nee Johnson) and Harry Mason on October 16, 1946.
Sister to Camilla Chamberlain (Edward-deceased), Nancy Davis (Gregory-deceased), and Eddie Moore (deceased), Jackie was the oldest of the Mason girls, known in the neighborhood for their basement parties. In 1980, she married her beloved Rev. Walter Thornhill, beginning a shared life filled with love and devotion.
Jackie's love extended to her children, Richard "KD" Harvey, Tiffany Deloach (George), and Camilla "Lulu" Stewart (Robert), who remember her as a nurturing soul, always ready with a comforting word or an engaging story. Her grandchildren Chaize, Mason, Wish, and Lejend will carry her legacy of kindness and joy.
A John Adams High School graduate in 1965, Jackie became a student of Cheyney State in 1966, where she pledged Delta Sigma Theta, Inc and joined the Black Panther Party. Jackie graduated from Cleveland State University in 1972 with two Master's degrees, dedicating her life to education. She was a revered teacher and guidance counselor for East Cleveland and Cleveland Metropolitan Schools for over three decades. Her passion for conflict resolution left an indelible mark on her colleagues and students. Jackie retired in 2018 from Collinwood High School as a guidance counselor.
Jackie was an avid sports fan, from boxing to basketball, especially showing her love for all Cleveland teams. Jackie loved jazz and also graced many with her talent in music. Her macaroni and cheese was the highlight of family gatherings. Her commitment to the Lord was evident through her service as a first lady to Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church. Predeceased by her parents, Jackie's memory will be cherished and kept alive by her husband Walter, her children, grandchildren, sisters, nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024. 1:00PM Wake and 2:00PM Memorial Service at the New Home Baptist Church, 15225 Sunview Avenue, Cleveland Ohio
